Last year, the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide surpassed 120 million.
Behind that number are women rebuilding lives interrupted by war, persecution, economic collapse, and conflict. Women navigating new countries, new systems, and new realities while still carrying culture, memory, skill, creativity, and responsibility for family and community.
Too often, refugee communities are spoken about only through crisis.
This Refugee Week, Love Welcomes wants to shift that narrative toward courage, creativity, opportunity, and human potential.
Launching June 1, Courage to Carry is a month-long campaign created in collaboration with women artisans connected to Palestine, Lebanon, Ukraine, and Thailand. The collection features handcrafted bag charms and accessories designed around one central question:
What do we carry forward?

For many women rebuilding through displacement, craft becomes more than creative expression. It becomes income. Stability. Community. A way to preserve culture and tradition while continuing forward through deeply difficult circumstances.
One of Love Welcomes’ artisan partners in Ukraine recently shared:
“Buying our products is the best possible support.”
Those words became part of the heartbeat of this campaign.
Because behind every headline about war and displacement are human beings still trying to build lives, support families, create beauty, and imagine a future beyond survival.
Throughout June, Love Welcomes is working toward a collective £10,000 campaign goal through product sales, donations, partnerships, and community support. That funding will help sustain artisan workshops, materials, production, and income opportunities for women rebuilding through conflict, displacement, and economic instability.

For a small, community-led organization, that support can have tangible impact:
-
keeping work flowing for women artisans
-
helping preserve cultural craft traditions
-
supporting families through income generations
-
creating spaces for creativity, connection, and rebuilding through community
At a time when anti-immigrant rhetoric, division, and displacement continue to rise globally, campaigns like Courage to Carry matter because they create connection instead of distance. They remind us that behind every statistic is a person with talent, creativity, ambition, and something meaningful to contribute.
Refugee Week’s 2026 theme, Courage, feels especially timely.
Because courage is not always loud.
Sometimes courage looks like rebuilding your life far from home. Supporting family through uncertainty. Learning a new skill. Continuing to create despite instability. Finding ways to gather, connect, and move forward even when the future feels unclear.
This Refugee Week, Love Welcomes is inviting individuals, brands, organizations, and communities to support Courage to Carry through purchases, donations, partnerships, and amplification.
Every product carries a story of resilience, craft, and new beginnings.
And every act of support helps remind these women they are not carrying it alone.
