Stitching Memories of Home: Streets of Belonging
This hand-embroidered piece captures the memory of a street—steps, doors, and bursts of floral color—stitched lovingly by a refugee woman at Alsama Studio. The artwork is a tribute to the everyday places that shape our sense of home and belonging.
For the artist, embroidery became a way to hold onto what was lost and to keep her dreams alive, even far from home.
“I miss my home in Syria, so I photographed it and embroidered it. I hope to return to my country and home soon. My home is my dream in life.”
Each colorful thread brings a piece of her past into the present—a reminder that even in displacement, the spirit of home can grow and bloom anew.
100% of proceeds from this piece directly support the artist and provide vital educational resources for girls at Alsama Project.
